Articling and Summer Student Programs |
The articling and summer student programs at Soloway Wright were designed to involve our students in the day-to-day operations of the firm in a manner that develops and improves their skills and assists in the delivery of services to clients. As a Soloway Wright student, you will work closely with individual lawyers on files and problems, many of which involve complex legal issues. Inevitably, you will gain useful knowledge of the practical conduct of a wide variety of legal specialties.
The firm typically hires two summer and two articling students each year. If you are interested in applying as a summer or articling student, please submit your resume, a cover letter and transcripts to Tara Sweeney at sweeneyt@solowaywright.com |

| It is our belief that the articling program enables the firm to assess each student's performance while simultaneously enabling the student to assess the firm. An important firm objective is to recruit its new lawyers and eventual partners from the ranks of its articling students who will maintain the firm's excellent reputation in the future. Back to Top |

| The Articling/Summer Student Committee |
| Our present Committee is composed of seven lawyers who are responsible for the hiring of students and act as liaisons throughout the year between students and lawyers. Their objective is to hire persons who will serve the firm faithfully and competently during their student years and who appear to have the potential to become future associates. Back to Top |

| Mentors |
| At the beginning of the articling and summer period, a specific lawyer will be assigned to you as your Mentor. Your Mentor will regularly review your progress and be available to discuss matters of both a professional and general nature with you. It is our hope that this program will ensure that you obtain a broad exposure to all aspects of the firm's areas of practice coupled with work experience commensurate with your individual needs and interests. | Continuing Education |
| In order that you may continue your legal education, the Articling Committee organizes a lecture program each year consisting of a series of seminars conducted by a variety of both senior and junior lawyers on topics of interest to our students. These lectures offer both a substantive and practical view of areas of our practice and administrative matters. They also provide a forum for questions and an opportunity for the students and lawyers of the firm to meet in an informal setting. Back to Top |

| The Library |
| In order to assist with legal research, our firm has an extensive library, complete with a wide variety of reporter series, periodicals and legal treatises. Our part-time librarian ensures that the library is kept up-to-date, that recent publications, newsletters and legislative summaries are circulated, and that any assistance needed in completing legal research assignments is provided. Full access to Quicklaw and WestLaw (E-Carswell) is available. Back to Top |

| Salary |
| Salaries are determined at the beginning of each articling and summer period and are competitive with those paid by firms of comparable size in Ottawa. Furthermore, articling students will have access during their articling year to the same benefit package enjoyed by other staff employed by the firm. |
| Articling salaries commence at the start of the Skills and Professional Responsibility Program. In addition, Soloway Wright pays the tuition fees for this Program as well as the fees for the Licensing Exam. Back to Top |

| Staff and Social Committee |
| In addition to our team of lawyers, we rely on the dedication and knowledge of more than 30 support staff in order to provide the best possible service to our clients. Two full-time clerks and one part-time clerk make up our corporate department. |
| At Soloway, Wright we encourage everyone to participate in the various social events held throughout the year that have been planned by our Social Committee. We also believe that helping our community is important and we have various fundraising activities to assist different charitable organizations or others in need. Back to Top |
